A college classmate of mine chose to start a clinic in Uganda. After finishing college with a nursing degree, she wished to put her degree to good use. Throughout her senior year she started saving money and purchasing supplies to make her dreams become a reality after graduation. She moved to Uganda and opened a very successful, non-profit clinic. It wasn't easy at first though. While she was preparing to move, she also had to find the right materials and equipment for her organization. While finding standard equipment was relatively simple, more complicated machinery and software proved to be a challenge.
Potentially the greatest challenge was finding a reputable electronic medical record software. She wanted to make sure she had all the medical records on everyone who entered the clinic. She wanted copies of electronic medical records so she would always have information such as allergies or previous surgeries on hand. This may seem over zealous but by having reputable records, she could offer individuals within the town the best care possible. Finding a trustworthy electronic medical record system proved to be difficult though. After many days spent on the Internet, she finally found one that was perfect.
Not only did it provide a place to keep each and every electronic medical record, it also offered a CPT lookup. While this may not seem like something significant, it was fantastic for my friend since she could look up each ailment in the CPT codes lookup and record everything properly and rapidly. This would help her see more patients in a day as well as make book keeping a little easier. By having a CPT coding lookup as well as a convenient electronic medical record system, she knew she was going to have an effective and helpful clinic! She was beside herself. Later on she purchased other different supplies that she could use in her clinic. Luckily, when she began her blog, she was given lots of donations. There was even enough to purchase more complex equipment so her clinic could identify other afflictions that could go unchecked in Uganda. It is remarkable to see on her blog that a construction company has already started building the site for her dream clinic. There is certainly a lot of work that will go into developing a successful clinic but it is well worth it. After that, she had the ability to focus on packing her own luggage and say good-bye to everyone prior to moving to Uganda. While she was extremely stressed in the beginning, I reassured her that she would have a successful clinic and all her effort is going to pay off in the end. The people of Uganda appreciate and thrilled to be treated correctly with appropriate medical attention. At her going away celebration, all the guests gave donations. By continuing to blog as well as update her website, she was able to receive more donations and gather more popularity for her organization. Ideally, she could continue working at the clinic for many years and it may stay as valuable and successful as it is today. remove frames
