Dead horse

Function: noun 1. an exhausted or profitless topic or issue -- usually used in the phrases "beat a dead horse" and "flog a dead horse". 2. Can also be used to describe a horse which has lost life; no longer alive, (most probobly the direct result of being beaten to death).
