Imagine a web site where you get on a daily basis to visit a funny thought for the day. Better yet, what if that site provides the amusing thought for your day to your email?
And imagine if rather than giving dull, you have-heard-it-a-thousand-times-before humor, that site presented clean, baked-daily humor made on-site within their in-store ranges?
Well... This is the task I've taken on.
And it is turning out to be quite the challenge to steadfastly keep up with cooking those daily loaves of jokes.
So how can you begin making a thought for the afternoon that's humorous and never having to be considered a professional comedian?
Here are a few tips:
1. Look at the types of things in your every day life that you discover unusual, ridiculous, hard-to-understand, foolish or awkward.
2. Produce a way to express one of those issues in a way that leads the mind in one direction. Then, suddenly shift direction with the ultimate part. This is actually the setup/punchline structure of humor.
3. For as it is possible to certain idea, make as many setup/punchline variations. Keep driving to generate them, even when you think you can't develop anymore. The ones you fight hard for are generally the funnier ones.
4. Attempt to make your humor express your final point within an indirect way. It's funnier to say someone could use "subsidies of something" than to say someone "someone doesn't have much something."
5. With each setup/punchline, play with the words to attempt to make your laughter short and to the stage. Wordy "humor" usually is not as short laughter as interesting.
6. Attempt to cover the ultimate destination of your funny setup/punchline until the very end. You want the value of one's laughter to be exhibited at the end, with nothing following it to drain the funny part away.
7. Practice on an everyday basis. Keep what's funny and toss what is not funny. You will have to make use of your absolute best judgment here. This is more straightforward to do if you set what you have created aside for a few days. Then, come back later and review it. Many of the lines that lack laughter can stand out like a sore thumb.
Here is a good example of how I created an interesting line:
- The term "imagination" popped in to my mind, and I considered how insulting it is to be accused of getting no imagination.
- I wondered what party could I insult without actually offending anybody. Politicians are always a good target.
- I then tried to determine how I can accuse politicians of having no imagination.
- For the setup I desired to claim that I would supplement politicians by saying they had a lot of creativity. So I thought, "With the total amount of imagination politicians have...."
- I tried to think about a method to indirectly say somebody does not have any imagination. My strategy was .".. They need to be eligible for a government subsidies."
- The effect was:
With the total amount of imagination
politicians have, they will
Be eligible for government subsidies.
That's OK, should you choose not find that line interesting. Your love of life might be different than mine. And that's fine. Humor is extremely subjective, and there is an extensive variety in the items people find funny. Also, studying the development of a joke detailed, like we did above, has a tendency to destroy the humor as you get.
This is the process I am using on a regular basis to generate fresh humor for my thought for your day site. It's not an simple task, but it's rewarding and exciting once the funny pours out. And it is good to believe maybe I've added only a little humor to the center of someone's day, maybe just at the stage where the person's daily pressure was about to overwhelm them. Why I call my amusing that is thought for the afternoon Laugh Vitamin. like i said
